Kevin A. Khadaran Smith, age 50, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 16, 1973 in Trinidad to Keith Smith and Indra (Khadaran) Joseph. Kevin attended Buffalo University, the University of Maryland, and Niagara University, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science, and a master’s degree in medical management. He was currently employed at Buckeye Broadband as a supervisor in collections and tech support. Before that he worked at Dell Computer, Office Max, as a paramedic while living in Baltimore, MD and as an EMT and volunteer fire fighter in Buffalo, NY.
Kevin was an active member of New Life Community Church where he served as deacon and “media man”. He enjoyed following sports, especially baseball, and was a fan of the New York Yankees. He also watched the news whenever he could, always staying abreast of current events both local and worldwide. An incredibly kind, pleasant, and outgoing individual, Kevin loved nothing more than being with his beloved family and many friends for fun and fellowship. He will be dearly missed.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Nina (Shaffer) Smith; children, Brent, Lottie, and Kenzie Smith; mother, Indra (Ken) Joseph; father, Keith Smith; stepmother-in-law, Jill Shaffer; brother-in-law, Patrick (Julee) Shaffer; mother-in-law, Linda (Tim) Frass; sisters, Katrina Archibald, Kimberly Lopez, and Kristen (Steve) Mendoza; brother, Keith Smith Jr.; and stepsister, Anna Joseph. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews as well as “His” cat Blueberry, and family dog Hamilton.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 16 from 1-5 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The memorial service for Kevin will follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Tim Frass presiding.
