Woodrow Merle “Woody” Schonter, age 86, of Toledo’s Point Place and Shoreland community, passed away due to complications after surgery on March 20, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Ebeid Ctr., Sylvania, surrounded by his loving family. Woodrow was born on July 16, 1937 to Melvin and Frances Schonter in Toledo, OH. A Veteran of the US Army, Woodrow married his beloved wife, Thelma Schonter on November 7, 1959. He worked as a chrome plater, finishing up his career at Al’s Polishing Shop on Laskey Road, retiring on July 16, 2000. Woodrow enjoyed his free time, whether it was scuba diving during his younger years, watching “Cowboy” movies, or hunting and fishing. He loved to mow his grass. Woodrow will be missed by all who knew him.
Woodrow is survived by his children, Woodrow Jr. (Jackie), Debra (Matt) Burrow, and Tammy (Chris) Cowley; grandchildren, Nicole Fodor (Paul), Daisy Bunnell (Andrew), Allison and Tyler Cowley; great-grandchildren, Devin Cerveny, Jackson, Sawyer and Cooper Bunnell, and Bentley Cowley; sisters, Gayle, Melva, and Roxanne; and brother, Lester. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma Schonter; and 9 brothers.
Visitation will be Monday, March 25 from 3-8 p.m. in Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 26 in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robert Noble presiding. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park with Military Honors led by the VFW 606 Burial Corps.
